CURING CRIME.
Scientific Treatment of Delinquents. LONDON, February 13. The curing of crime by science is a step forward that has now been adopted by the Institute for the Scientific Treatment of Delinquents. An inpatients’ clinic, to deal with offenders who are repeatedly before the Courts but who are yet manifestly likely to benefit from medical attention and investigation, has been opened. It has been shown that such treatment may usefully occupy two years if a new habit of mind is created. The inpatients’ department will enable magistrates to find a much-needed substitute for prison. The institute already has a staff of twenty-one doctors, and the work is extending to the provinces.
