BURWOOD SCHOOL.

Annual Picnic and Sports at Stewart’s Gully. The pupils of the Burwood School held their annual picnic at Stewart’s Gully yesterday. There was a large attendance. The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised Messrs H. Rowse, H. Hagglow, J. Betteridge and W. Haffenden and Mrs W. Kerr, assisted by the teachers, the head master (Mr J. Southward), Miss M. Simpson and Miss J. Barr. Icecreams, drinks and lollies were distributed to the children. The sports events resulted:—Primers: Girls: Merle Shaw 1, Dorothy Betteridge 2. The winners of the lucky ticket were Mrs J. Southward and Mr Simpson. The baby show was judged by Nurse Nicholson. Following were the awards: Under six months: June Haffenden 1. John Betteridge 2. Under twelve months: Maurice Hildebrand 1. Under eighteen months: Resell Thompson 1. Mr H. Bowse’s special prize: Russell Thompson. At the conclusion of the picnic Mr IT. Rowse thanked the people for their support. A vote of thanks was passed to the school committee and teaching staff.
