OTTAWA AGREEMENTS.
Possibilities of Benefit Not Exhaustted. United Press As»n.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 14. The beneficial effects of the Ottawa agreements are stressed in the annual report of the Australian Association of British Manufacturers. The report declares that provision against imposition of new duties against British goods without proper inquiry by the Tariff Board has enabled retention of a considerable proportion of British trade to Australia that might otherwise have been lost. Possibilities under the agreements have not been exhausted, the report continues. It advises British industries which have not yet benefited from the various Australian tariff amendments to make formal application fer Board of Trade inquiries with regard to such products. Commenting on the serious effect of competition on the British cotton and rayon industries from Japan, the repot t expresses the opinion that the difficulty of the situation has been enormously intensified by the fact that the balance of trade between Australia and Japan is so favourable to the former.
