MEAT EXPORTS.
Further Negotiations in London. CABLE TO GOVERNMENT. “ Star ” Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, February 14. The Government received to-day a lengthy cable from the British Government detailing further proposals- in respect of meat imports into Britain for three months following the termination of the short term arrangement on March 31. This will come before Cabinet at the earliest opportunity, which, owing to the business of the House, will probably be in the week-end, and New Zealand’s reply can then be cabled Home. Meanwhile Mr David Jones, who was. appointed official adviser to the High Commissioner while these proposals were under consideration in London, has left by the Rangitane, and should reach Wellington on March 14. It is certain that Cabinet will decide that at least one New Zealand Minister should visit London for further negotiations, as the position has become further complicated by the Argentine agreement and the proposal for a levy in addition to import restriction. Business of Session. The King's silver jubilee celebrations begin on May 6, and the Imperial aspect of the celebration will be particularly marked at an Empire gathering on May 22. therefore it is intended that the urgent legislation which the Government wishes passed at the present session shall be completed in time to permit the New Zealand Ministerial delegation to leave after the adjournment. The sessional programme as already indicated by the Prime Minister is being strictly limited, a plan strongly appealing to legislators, who find that Parliament Building, designed in days when winter sessions were the regular rule, .is not well adapted to providing comfortable conditions in hot weather.
