THE SOCIAL ROUND.

Gatherings Held in Town and Country. PARTY AT OPAYVA. On the occasion of the approaching marriage of Miss Mavis Wright and Mr Stan Winder, the members of the Opawa Baptist Church arranged a pleasant gathering in the primary hall last evening. Under the leadership of Mr Eric Voice, games were enjoyed by young and old. Items w’ere contributed by Miss- M. M’Tavish and Mr George Macann. The Rev L. A. Day referred to the work of Miss Wright as a junior Christian Endeavour leader and choir member and of Mr Winder as leader of the senior young men’s Bible Class. On behalf of the church and choir members, he extended good wishes to the guests an 3 presented them with an oak tea waggon and a copper kerb and salad set on behalf of the Young People’s Organisations. Supper was handed round. Kitchen Afternoon. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs W. J. G. Hughes, Cheviot, on Monday, when Mrs Hughes and Airs A. M’Giffert were joint hostesses at a pantry and kitchen afternoon in honour of Miss Anna Wilson, whose marriage will take place shortly. Competitions were won by Mesdames J. Wyllle (Omihi), G. T. Brown, R. I. C. Harrison and A. M’Giffert. The guest of honour was the recipient of many useful gifts. Among those present were: Mesdames J. T. Read, R. I. C. Harrison, J. Wyllie (Omihi), G. T. Brown, W. G. Dickson, R. Lockhead, F. S. Wilson, A. M’Giffert, F. H. Upston, E. B. Clarke, J. Y. Moir and W. J. G. Hughes, Misses Anna Wilson, Jean Sloss (Omihi), Dorothy Harrison and Alary Wilson. Euchre Tarty at Bnrwood. An enjoyable euchre tournament was held in the Burwood School on Saturday evening by the Burwood Library Committee. Mr H. Rowse was in charge of the cards. Among those present were: Mesdames C. Freeman, K. Mytton, E. Nicholson, S. Henderson, H. Rowse and Aliss Gloistein. Alessrs J. Higham, J. Betteridge, Palmer, R. J. Ecroyd and R. ATulholland. The prizewinners were Airs K. Alytton and Air R. J. Ecroyd.
