German Buying to 3e More Extensive. LONDON, February 14. The Berlin correspondent of the “Financial News” says; The Wool Control Board has authorised domestic mills to purchase the whole of the basic quota allotted for six months to March 31. Previously only two-thirds had been released, and the decision means more extensive purchases abroad. Nevertheless, the basic quota represents a reduction of over 35 per cent when compared with the normal consumption of the mills.” SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, February 14. At the wool sales to-day 12.162 bales were offered and 10,499 sold, while 1323 were sold privately. The market was firm for all better descriptions of fleece and skirtings, but average to good top-making fleece and inferior descriptions are still irregular. Bradford and Japanese buyers were the main operators, with good support from France and Germany on better descriptions. Greasy merino sold to 24*d. equalling the Australian record of the season, for five bales. MELBOURNE SERIES. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. A statement issued by the Federal Treasury shows that the public debt of the Commonwealth and States at December 31 last reached £1,237.000,000, of which £394,000,000 was Commonwealth debt. Inquiries are being made into the possibility of establishing in Ceylon the manufacture of glassware, canvas shoes with rubber soles, indiarubber goods and similar articles such as Japan has been selling in that country.
