ORDINARY HOURS.
Schools to Resume Next Monday. OFFICIAL DECISION. All primary schools in Canterbury and Westland will resume full time teaching as from Monday next. This decision was reached this morning, and an announcement was made by the secretary of the Canterbury Education Board (Mr L. E. Rowley). When the schools commenced for the year on February 5. the Minister of Education (the Hon S. G. Smith) gave permission for them to be opened only in the mornings on account of the extremely hot weather. Power to open or close was given to the education boards, and the Canterbury board decided to use the permissive power giv*n by the Minister. Now that the very hot spell seems to have passed, it is felt that the health of the pupils will not be endangered by full time lessons, a view that is supported by many t of the headmasters, some of whom have not been in favour of restricted hours at all.
