SALESMAN FINED.
Was Intoxicated in Charge of Car. LICENSE ENDORSED. Convicted at the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of being found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car, Raymond Henry Watson, 44 years of age, of Brown’s Road, a salesman, was fined £lO and costs and his license was ordered •to be endorsed. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., was on the Bench. Mr Russell appeared for accused, who pleaded guilty. '* The accused is a traveller employed to get orders from licensed firms,” stated Mr Russell, “ and as your Worship knows men in that employment often have to buy their business.” The accused was apprehended by a constable, who ordered him not to drive his car. Later he was stopped by the same constable. The doctor who examined the accused said it was not a bad case.”
The Magistrate: It is the duty of the doctor to state facts and not to decide whether the case is a bad one or not. I object to comment like that in the doctor’s report. Mr Russell added that the accused was a married man with two children, and a car was essential to his employment.
