WOMEN'S DIVISION.

A meeting of the committee of the North Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Wednesday, Airs H. A. Nutt presiding. Also present were; Mesdames C. Al’lntosh, H. G. Denham, J. D. Hall, R. Jones, G. Henderson, G. Henderson, D. Al’Millan and Miss F. L. Cooper (secretary). After routine business had been disposed of, a discussion took place on the fair to be held on April 17 at the Y.M.C.A. in aid of the North Canterbury provincial funds. It was decided to ask branches to send in goods for the various stalls, and some suggestions for cpntribution were: Poultry, dairy produce of all kinds (including cheese), fruit, eggs, vegetables, potatoes, grain, cooked foods, jams, pickles, preserves, sauces, cakes, plants and flowers (including bulbs and seeds), handwork of all descriptions, books, magazines, white elephants, ice cream, home-made sweets and gifts for a shilling stall, and also contributions towards the afternoon tea. It was also decided to advertise the fair in the daily papers a few days prior to April 17. Discussion also took place regarding the proposed interprovincial conference, which it is hoped to hold in Ashburton early in March. Social at Allandale. The Allandale Hall presented an animated scene on the occasion of a social held in aid of the funds of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The evening opened with items by the children of the district, who had been trained by two members of the Division. A “ bring and buy ” stall was well stocked with fruit and vegetables, which with other attractions resulted in about £2 5s being raised. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs Alec Harris. Both novelty dances were won by Aliss J. Templeton and Mr A. Hicks (Motukarara). The takings at the door amounted to £3 10s 9d. It is hoped to hold a group garden party in the district in March.
