EUCHRE TOURNAMENTS.
Complaint Made by School Committee. A complaint was received from the Phillipstown School Committee at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association, that euchre tournaments were being held in opposition to those controlled by the School Committee, and that cash prizes were being offered. Originally the tournaments had meant a profit of £IOO each year to the committee, but le-
cently a loss had been shown. It was considered that the tournaments complained of would not be permitted if the police were to make investigations. It was stated that tournaments had been legalised for the benefit of the School Committees, but the legislation had acted as a boomerang. Delegates from Addington and East Christchurch stated that tournaments were being conducted by their committees, and were meeting with even greater success than in the past, ihe Woodend delegate said that the position in his district was similar to that complained of by Phillipstown. The matter was referred to the executive.
