NO NEGLECT.

Inquest Concerning Death of Hospital Patient. No evidence of any neglect or want of care in the treatment at the Christchurch Hospital of John Allen Adamson, a paperhanger, of 61, Grafton Street, Linwood, was found by the Coroner (Mr H. P. Lawry) when he conducted an inquest yesterday concerning the death of Adamson, who died in the hospital from gas gangrene. The Coroner’s verdict was as follows: “ That John Allen Adamson died in the Christchurch Hospital on December 21, 1934, and that the cause of death was heart failure resulting from toxoemia or blood poisoning (gas gangrene inflammation), accelerated by anaesthesia (gas and oxygen). This followed treatment in the Christchurch Hospital, including injections for the relief of asthma. There is no evidence of any neglect or want of care in the treatment of the patient in the Hospital.” Sub-Inspector Mac Lean conducted the inquiry for the police. The medical superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Walter Fox, and also deceased’s father and widow, questioned witnesses.
