CENTRAL OFFICES.
Request by Justices of the Peace. Remits to be submitted to the Dominion conference of representatives of the Justices of the Peace Associations, were considered by last night’s meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Association. Those present were: Messrs A. H. Hobbs (president), A. Williams, George Mapinnoss, H. F. Herbert, J. J. Hurley, Ci. M. Telfer and J. W. Baty (registrar). The conference was asked to request the Government to provide central offices for the use of Justices of the Peace, and members of the public, requiring the services of Justices, in Auckland. Another remit recommended that the attention of the authorities (Department of Justice) should be drawn to the necessity for enforcing laws relating to motor-cycles without effective silencers. Amendments to the Act relating to Sunday trading were suggested. It was considered that the sale of hot water and ice-cream should be made legal. Messrs Hobbs, Hurley and Williams were elected to represent the Canterbury Council at the conference to be held at Dunedin on March 11. 12. 13 and 14.
