DANCE ON BOARD SHIP.
Company of “ Australia ” Entertain. The ship’s company of 11.M.A.5. Atistralia entertained their friends last night at a dance held on board ship. It was apparent that the Australians have made a host of friends in Christchurch, for the spacious decks were occupied by 400 dancers. By permission of Captain W. S. F. M’Leod, the whole of the deck space, including the quarter-deck, was used for dancing. Enclosed by canvas, except on the shore side, and effectively decorated with bunting, pennants and coloured electric lights, the deck made an excellent ball-room, and provided an opportunity for a large crowd on the wharf to view the proceedings and enjoy the music. Refreshments, ices and supper | were served from a large buffet, and j the music supplied by the ship’s band I was broadcast throughout the ship. A special train left Lyttelton at 12.30 a.m. for Christchurch.
