“THE GAIETIES.”
Talented Vaudeville and Revue Company. “ The Gaieties of 1935.” a brilliant vaudeville and revue company of international artists. organised twelve months ago in Australia, will give its initial performance in St James’ Theatre on Saturday. The season will open with the mirth-provoking revue. “Hello, Christchurch!” a pot pourri of pretty girls, tuneful songs, talented instrumentalists, clever dancers, Swiss yodellers, sensational acrobats and really funny comedians. Criticisms of “ The Gaieties’ ” presentations received from Australia and the North Island of New Zealand are most flattering, the concensus of opinion being that no finer show 7 of this nature has been seen for years. Comedy is one of the features, and with such artists as Frank Perrin, English funmaker, the charming little American comedienne, Nell Fleming, and the two clever Australians, Ted Stanley and Dot Arnold, patrons can be assured of amusement. Music lovers will be delighted with Victor Burke (Irish tenor). Ray Foster (soprano), from the Sydney Prince Edward Theatre, and Cecil Perry (English baritone). But it is in the specialty offerings that this company is so outstanding, the items including Trampo, who sleeps, dresses himself and juggles on an ordinary clothes line with as much assurance as if were on terra firma. Another fine act is that of the Three Alecs. French clowns, w 7 hose comedy tumbling is packed with laughs and thrills. Seats may be reserved at the D.I.C.
