January 9. | The Governing Commission of the j Saar w'as hurriedly convened owing to j disorders after the arrival of the j American contingent of voters. Nazi and Communist clashes and a Nazi demonstration in front of the Town Hall were soon succeeded by an uproarious welcome. The police endeavoured to silence the crowds, who were defying the regulations. There were several mounted police charges, in which many were injured, before the demonstrators dispersed. , PRISONERS ON STRIKE. SAARBRUCKEN, January 9. Prisoners in the Neunkirchen gaol | struck against the plebiscite, refusing j to vote unless they were liberated on ; January 12. The authorities demurred, where- j upon seventeen of the forty-two j prisoners withheld their votes.
