Fever Sweeping Through Ceylon. DROUGHT-STRICKEN ISLAND. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right. (Received January 10, 12.40 p.m.) COLOMBO, January 9. Malaria is still raging throughout Ceylon and difficulty is being experienced in coping with the situation owing to the frequent relapses of children and old persons. There were 79 deaths in Colombo Hospital in December. The appointment of a scientific commission to investigate the causes of the malaria outbreak and to devise means for a drive against the scourge are being considered by a board of ministers and eminent authorities. A food shortage is threatened owing to the cultivators of out-station areas being fever-stricken. The fields are lying faljpw and the seven-months’ drought is continuing.
