Reports and Returns From Operations. GOLDEN DAWN. The Golden Dawn mine manager's report for the fortnight ending December 29 is:— Development—No. 3 level: Drive north from winze on No. 3 reef extended sft. The reef 3plit into two branches. Eastwall branch 2ft 6in wide, westwall branch 2ft wide. Assay value £1 per ton. Drive north from winze on No. 1 reef extended 4ft, reef 15in wide, £8 2s Id per ton. Drive south from winze on No. 1 reef extended 3ft, reef 18in wide, £1 4s 3d per ton. Drive north on No. 1 reef driven sft from north end of old stopes. The reef is still very small, and the country rock still the same. Bottom intermediate level—Drive north on westwall branch off No. 1 reef north driven 3ft. 4ft 6in wide, £6 17s 6d per ton. Drive south on No. 1 reef from south end of Grey's old stopes driven 3ft. The reef here has opened out to sft wide and looks very well. Assay value for 4ft wide £3 6s 8d per ton. Top intermediate level—Crosscut west off drive north on No. 1 reef driven 3ft in country rock of good class for carrying reefs. Drive north on new reef from crosscut west driven 2ft, reef 14in wide, £1 13s 4d per ton. Farmer’s level—Crosscut east has been cleaned out and re-timbered for 60ft. At this point we holed through a drive going north to be followed up. Surface level—Crosscut east from west side of bald spur driven sft in good mineralised country. Stoping—No. 3 level: On No. 3 reef north and south from winze, reef 4ft wide, assay £1 14s 3d per ton. On No. 1 reef from winze, reef 12in wide, £l9 Os 6d per ton. On eastwall brarieh of No. 3 reef south block, reef ISin wide, £3 4s Sd per ton. Top intermediate level—On eastwall branch reef, 12in wide, £1 6s 4d per ton. On No. 3 reef south block, reef 14in wide, 17s per ton. The mine was closed down for the holidays on December 22. and during the •vacation repairs have been effected to the main level and to the air compresItfaorl Gully Co. The Maori Gully Co.’s dredge is expected to begin work at the end of this month. An entirely new machine has been erected on the claim, with a closely connected line of seventy-one buckets, each with a capacity of 4ft. The claim is situated near Stillwater, and has been extensively bored. Basing values at £4 an ounce, it yielded Is 6d a yard. The capital of the company, most of which is held in Christchurch and on the West Coast, amounts to £24,000, all of which has been subscribed. The company, it is reported, will have £2OOO working capital in hand after providing for all preliminary expenses and paying for the dredg-e. From twenty-one applicants, Mr A. Caithness has been appointed dredgemaster. Sell-Xilgrour Co. The secretary of the Bell-Kilgour Gold Mining Co., Ltd. advises receipt of report from the manager, dated December 21. reading as follows: Development work at Murray's Claim. The north was advanced 15ft, making a total of 73ft from the Flat Sheet. The material passed through for the period was loose gravel with a few large stones and proved low grade. The floor is uneven, varying from Ift 6in to 3ft above the tram rails. The east branch was advanced 32ft, making 100 ft from the Flat Sheet. At 7ft back from the face started a north crosscut, which is now in 7ft. The face is at. present in clay, which appears to be dipping *down in the crosscut. « Chapman’s rind Co. Chapman s Find Gold Mining Co.. Ltd., reports for December:—During the month work was carried on for three weeks only, operations being terminated on December 20 for the Christmas and New Year holidays. The low-level is advancing towards No. 2 leader and is expected to cut it at any time. Opening cut from thus level o n No. 1 leader lias revealed satisfactory values, a small trial crushing yielding over loz to the ton with the ore improving as the drive progresses; 7 tons l jcwt of leader were treated for return** of l2oz ? and 71b of specimen stone yielded 19oz, making a total of 3loz of melted gold for the three weeks' work. Bendigo Rise and Shine Co. The Bendigo Rise and Shine Gold Mining Co., Ltd. reports that the east drive cutting through the north-south lode met a solid face of ore at 60ft.
