An unexpected thrill was giyen to about 500 campers at Waihi Beach cn Boxing Day, when a parachute descent was made by Mr I. S Fraser from a monoplane piloted t>v Mr S. .T. Blackmore. of Hamilton. states the “ New Zealand Herald.” Mr Fraser had only a narrow strip of beach on which to land, and as a strong northeasterly breeze was blowing, the descent had to be made from a point well out to sea to enable a successful landing to be effected. Mr Fraser dropped, and in descending performed a series of acrobatic feats. He was somewhat out in his calculations. however, for instead of landing on the beach he fell into the sea beyond the line of breakers, and was momentarily in danger of being smothered by the parachute. Fortunately, the waves and wind caught his equipment, and he was thrown on to the beach none the worse for his adventure.
