NEW UNIFORM.

Change Made by Boys’ High School. A more attractive uniform has been designed for the Christchurch Boys’ High School and will be worn by the pupils next year. The new uniform has been selected by the headmaster, Mr G. J. Lancaster, in co-operation with Messrs Cossar and Lawrence, of Beath and Co., Ltd., and Messrs Midgley and Duncan, of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., and comprises a new cap in plain grey of the same material as the shorts and jacket and without ornamentation. The cap fits well down at the back of the head and has a much more decided peak than the present cap. For Sunday' dress and for ceremonial occasions, a navy' blue suit with long trousers is to be worn by pupils of the sixth and fifth forms, and is optional for pupils of the fourth and third forms. The material adopted as a standard is a pure worsted of the same texture as that used for the shorts. New Metal Badge. A metal badge has been added to the uniform to relieve the bareness of the cap. The design is one of three submitted by Mrs Louise Henderson, and it consists of a shield containing diagonal stripes in black and royal blue enamel in the middle of which is a ring in black enamel with the name and motto in gilt lettering. Inside the ring on a base of white enamel is the school crest in gilt metal. The new badge will displace the present hat badge used with the cadet uniform. The shorts are considerably fuller and wider and are pleated at the front and creased at the sides. The material to be used is a pure worsted instead of the wool mixture with worsted finish. The colour is unaltered.
