River Pollution.
Dear Sir,—l crave space in your paper to direct attention to the fact that the drainage at Belfast is poured untreated into the south branch of the Waimakariri River, converting a beautiful stream into a foul and malodorous plague spot. I think that useful work could be found for quite a number of unemployed in constructing septic tanks or arranging for the outfall from the drains to discharge into the main stream so that the sewage would be disposed of without creating the present intolerable nuisance.—l am. etc., ARGUS.
