GUARDS BAND.
Application by Auckland Bandsman. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 10. An application from a young Auckland bandsman for enlistment in the Grenadier Guards Band has been provisionally accepted by Major Miller, director of the band. The successful applicant is Mr P. W. Eastoe, who has been a member of the j Auckland Municipal Band since its inception. The instrument played by Mr Eastoe is the E-flat clarinet. ’ Major Miller said it would be necessary for Mr Eastoe to pass a medical examination before being accepted into the Grenadier Guards Band. The procedure in connection with enlistment would make it necessary for the applicant to go to England. The recommendation for the acceptance of Mr Eastoe would be forwarded to headquarters. The band already contains two South Africans and two Australians who joined before this tour commenced. “ I would like to make it as much an Empire band as possible, and further applications from New Zealand bandsmen would be considered,” said Major Miller.
