NUMBERS INCREASE.
Men Receiving Relief from R.S.A. Depot. The executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association met last evening; present: The Rev F. T. Read (president), Messrs A. W. Mewton, C. Mill), C. Chisnall, W. K. Leadley, B. O. Priddis. J. S Chisholm, .J. A. Fast and E. F. Willcox (secretary). The Benevolent Committee reported that 267 applications for groceries, meat, coal and miscellaneous orders had been granted during the fortnight ended on December S, an increase of seven over the previous fortnight. Two applications had been declined. Mr Priddis mentioned that the number of cases was unduly large for the present time of the year when seasonable work should be available.
The chairman said that the applications were fully investigated and were} found to be genuine. The increase was‘ partly due to the fact that returned men were continually breaking down in health. and the committee had come acress a great many cases of sickness‘ lately.
