Eastern Australia Suffers Heavy Damage. HEAT WAVE IN PERTH. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrlgh t. (Received December 11, 10.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The eastern coast of Australia, from Brisbane to Melbourne, has been lashed by a gale, accompanied by extensive rain, causing heavy damage to crops. Five inches of rain fell in less than ar }°^ r in t * le Clarence River district, while in the Casino district homes w r ere flooded when a creek overflowed. W estern Australia, on the other hand, is experiencing a heat wave, the temperature in Perth yesterday being 103 degrees.
