BODY IN TRUNK.
Mancini on Trial at Lewes. GRUESOME EXHIBITS PROSECUTION BUILDING UP STRONG CASE. United Press Assn.—By Klectrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 11, 12.10 p.m ) LONDON, December 10. The trunk in which Yiolette Kaye’s bodv was found and the hammer* head with which the prosecution alleged she was killed were exhibited at the Lewes Assizes at the opening of the trial of Jack Notyre, who pleaded not guilty. Mr J. D. Cassels, prosecuting, said that Miss Kaye was last seen alive on May 10 in the Skylark Cafe, Brighton, where Notyre, under the name of Tony Mancini, was working as a waiter. Miss Kaye’s sister, Olive Watts, received a telegram purporting to come from Violette, dated Brighton, May 11, and saying that she was going abroad. Notvre afterwards said that Miss Kaye had'gone to Paris. He also gave Miss Atteril, who was employed at the Skylark Cafe, some clothing, saying that Miss Kaye had not taken them. Mr Cassels related alleged conversations in the course of which Notyre had declared that the “ Missus went away after I bashed her.” He added: “ What’s the good of fisting women, you should slosh her with a hammer like I did.” b Notyre slept for two months in the basement in Kemp Street beside the trunk containing the body of Miss Kave and eventually left, saying that Kemp Street would soon be famous and that his picture would soon appear in the newspapers. A furniture salesman in evidence said that he sold the trunk produced in Court to Notyre. A handwriting expert gave evidence that the printed capitals in the original of the telegram to Miss Watts was written were identical with those on the menus which Notyre wrote at the Skylark Cafe. v The case was adjourned.
