NEW SPY PLOT.

French Embassy in Tokio Involved. WOMEN ARRESTED. NAVAL ATTACHE QUESTIONED BY POLICE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received December 11, 12.20 p.m.) TOKIO, This Day. The gendarmerie have disclosed that the French Assistant Naval Attache, Sub-Lieutenant Tessier du Cros, has several times been summoned and questioned with regard to alleged espionage activities. There have also been arrested and cross-examined a score of the daughters and young wives of Japanese officials, all socially prominent and all proficient in French, with whom Sub-Lieutenant du Cros had allegedly established intimacy and then induced them to obtain secrets of naval strategy, descriptions of arsenals, et cetera. Du Cros travelled extensively in out-of-the-way places, including the fortified zones. Recently a girl said that a Freqch naval man urged her to associate with the Japanese naval men and to obtain secrets. The present disclosure is regarded as a counter-blast to the Japanese espionage sensation at Singapore, which has been prominently displayed in the Japanese Press. It is reported that the police are closely watching an American naval official, who has been frequenting cafes and also an American newspaper cor respondent. The gendarmerie want to deport du Cros, but are prevented from doing so by his diplomatic immunity.
