The president then reviewed the accounts for the year. Members might wonder why sundry creditors were little more than half last wear’s total. Last year the club finances' were loaded with receipts and expenditure on behalf of the new watering scheme. This had now been completed and the debt under the £ISOO mortgage, which was reducible by £IOO each year, would be shown in the next balance-sheet of the Shirley Links Company. Despite a total expenditure of £IBOO, not one penny had come out of the club’s funds, except the annuel interest and sinking fund on the £ISOO loan. Criticism had been made in the past of the club’s heavy direct and indirect indebtedness, but the president honed members would agree that every effort was being made steadily to reduce this. Officer* Elected. Following the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the following officers were elected; President. Mr Norton Francis; vice-presidents, Messrs F. E. Graham, W. D. T. Harman and Dr P. S. ✓Foster; captain, Sir Cyril Ward, Rart.: committee. Messrs A. A. Boon, L. A. Dougall, K. W. Robinson, W. Ross Lascelles. F. W. Freeman and C. J. Wilson. Mr D. Hoare was reappointed auditor. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. South Island Event is' Proposed. It was suggested by Sir Cyril Ward, captain of the Christchurch Golf Club, at the annual meeting of the club last evening, that the present Easter championship be changed into a South Island open championship, to consist cf four rounds of stroke play. Professionals throughout the country would he invited to enter, but the qualification would be a handicap of four and under. There might also be a South Island amateur championship. The present l>obson Cun event could be decided on handicap play. Sir Cyril added that this was merely i* suggestion and had at no time been discussed by the committee. He felt certain that some similar event would shortly be in the North Island. One major open event was not enongh for the whole Dominion. It was pointed out bv Mr R. T. Tosswill that should the Golf Associaion nrmmvp of a South island open championship it would not he a purely Christchurch event and there would certainly he demanded a change of venue fro ni year to year. This might have the effect of causing the Easter tournament to fqll flat. Important Event. Further, he considered the Dobson Cup to he such an important, event that it should not he decided on handicap pla'\ Perhaps the Dobson Cup could be a Christmas tournament event. Sir Cyril Ward replied that in the event Of the Smith Island championship eoin-r to Dupedin. or anothe*- town, the amateur championship could still he held at Shirlev. He felt that a South Island open championship would be a good thing for golf.

Tho sugges+iop was left in the hands >f the comrpittee for consideration.
