TWO HEALTH CAMPS.

Fifty Children to be Given a Holiday. SUNLIGHT LEAGUE’S EFFORT. The fifty children who are going to the health camps run by the Sunlight League have been chosen, and there are no more vacancies. The children met one another and their prefects on Saturday afternoon. On arrival, the twenty-four little girls going to Okains Bay were interviewed with their mothers by Miss Marion Reese, who is to be in charge at the Okains Bay camp. She will be assisted by Miss Wilson and Miss Alusker, and by the following prefects:—Misses Mary Pearson, Kathleen Cuddon, Peggy Blundell (half-time) and Barbara Lawrence (half-time). The second camp is a new one, and is for boys as well as girls. It will also be on the Peninsula at Pigeon Bay, and Miss Cora Wilding, who has organised both camps, will be in charge. She is being assisted by Airs Allen M’Lean and Miss Holland, and two girls from St Margaret’s, who are acting as prefects. Government Support. The expense of taking fifty children for one month to camp, the cost of transport and of buying the necessary equipment is considerable. For this year’s camp £4B (out of £921, made available for health camps by health stamp sales) was allocated to the Sunlight League. This sum would only have permitted an extremely limited number of children to be taken, if two years ago the Sunlight League had not been allocated by the Government £IOO from an art union. This enabled an open-air shelter to be erected as an annex at Okains, and also permitted a greater number of children to be taken, both last year and this year. The offer of £IOO out of £IOOO art union money made available to the Government for the purpose of health camps in New Zealand, has been again offered to the Sunlight League, but probably this will not be available till next year. Gifts Received. Many gifts have already been received, and the Sunlight League gratefully acknowledges assistance from the following:—Air H. L. Barker (entire wholemeal supply for both camps), Airs Guy Cotterill (jam), Airs Firth (tennis racquets and balks), Aliss Thelma Gregg; (typing). Miss D. Humphreys (racquet), Airs John Montgomery (clothes), Aliss Alae (record cards). Airs Redmond (clothes), Air Sutherland (swing). Sanatarium Food Co. (grano.se), Master F. P. Wilding (loan of boxing gloves and canoe). Thanks are also expressed to Airs de Vere for assistance with sewing, also to Airs A. Wilson, Airs H. S. Lawrence, Airs Williamson and Airs Harbison. Gratitude is expressed to Air Breward, jun., who has again consented to help the prefects in showing them the best way to teach .swimming and life saving. Further donations have been received from Mesdames G. F. Allen, Selwyn, C. H. Hamilton, Douglas Anderson and Mr J. R. Foster (clothes) and Airs Andrew Anderson (tins). Secretarial assistance Is urgently needed. and those willing to help are requested to ring 31-662. Clothes, especially cardigans and frocks (tentwelve years), would be welcome, and mav be' left at Barnetts, also sand shoes and blankets. Honey would be appreciated, and books or toys, which would be used as prizes at the camp sports. Brushes and combs are also needed.
