QUAKE RECORDED
'Che earthquake which was reported from Otago and Southland was recorded as a slight tremor in the Meteorological Observatory yesterday. It is a t> present calculated that the origin of the quake was about 300 miles from Christchurch. One shock only was shown on the seismograph, but it is thought that the impression of two shocks was given by* the fast-moving primary* waves and the slower moving secondary waves, which would create separate and definite impulses.
