JN THE ENGLISH language, says an English writer, there are many words which mean “ crowd.” A crowd of ships is a fleet; a fleet of sheep is a flock; a flock of girls is a bevy; a bevy of wolves is a pack; a pack of thieves is a gang: a gang of angels is a host; a host of porpoises is a shoal; a shoal of buffalo is a herd ; a herd of children is a troop; a troop of partridges is a galaxy; a galaxy of ruffians is a horde; a horde of rubbish is a heap; a heap of oxen is a drove; a drove of hoodlums is a mob; a mob of whales is a school; a school of worshippers is a congregation; a congregation of engineers is a corps; a corps of robbers is a band; a band of bees is a swarm; a swarm of people is a crowd.
