A BRIGHT COMEDY.
“ Romance in the Rain ” at Crystal Palace. Cinderella brought up to date, complete with press agent, Rolls-Royce and pent house, is the theme of “ Romance in the Rain,” the sparkling comedy offered at the Crystal Palace Theatre this week. Roger Prvor, who made his name in “ Moonlight and Pretzels,” and Heather Angel, a delightful young English actress, pla>’ the romantic couple in the film. Being a modern version there is a vamp, the part being played by Esther Ralston, Victor Moore, leading American comedian, finds ample scope for his talents as the wealthy publisher of a magazine of love stories. Cinderella is like her namesake in that she is the hotvsehold drudge before her rise to fame and fortune as the winner of a competition for a modern Cinderella, organised by the great publisher. She falls in love with her Prince Charming, the press agent who has been the cause of her success, but his one interest in life is the writing of love stories and headlines to match them. It is only when she is about to marry the “ Nation’s Boy-friend,” chosen by the judges as the modern Prince Charming, that the press agent wakes up to the fact that he is in love with Cinderella.
Ruth Donnelly, in the part of the faithful secretary, gives a distinguished performance, and there are gorgeous scenes at the Cinderella Ball. with dancing beauties and showmanship on the grand scale. It is all wholesome and armising fun and leaves a pleasant recollection after the show is over.
