Rivalry is by Antagonist from Equipment (dam of Cricket Bat), by Martian f?orn To-morrow, by Bill of Portland from the Trenton mare Elusive. ROY REED WINS TWO. It did not take Roy Reed long after his return to New Zealand to get into the money. He won a double on Round Up and Dombey at Woodville on Saturday. K. Voitre was less fortunate, having to be content with a second on La Poupee. IN NEW QUARTERS. T. R. George took over the Brentwood stables at Trentham on Friday. He has eighteen horses in commission, but there are thirty-seven boxes at the stables. The latest addition to the team is Gate Crasher, a two-year-old gelding who is well enough named, seeing that he is by Intruder (son of Trespasser) from All Bright, an English mare by Grand Parade (son of Orby), by Bright Folly by Black Jester, from Bright by Sandridge, from Doris by Loved One. Bright was, therefore, a sister to Sunstar, winner of the Derby at Epsom in 1911. Mr Eric Riddiford bred Gate Crasher and passed him on to Mr W. Higgins. =s* * * * Additional engagements for Trentham accepted by G. H. She will race as La Nijinska, named after the sister of the famous dancer, Nijinsky. This filly is a close blood relation to the FeTlding winner Ilias. HORORATA RIDERS. R. Millar, of Palmerston North, has sold his six-year-old gelding Argument, by Acre-Polemic, to a Tasmanian buyer. Argument won the Rangitoto Hack Handicap, eight furlongs and a half, at the Rangitikei meeting on October 27. INSURANCE AGAINST RAIN. Although it is quite common in other parts of the world, very few New Zealand racing clubs insure against wet weather for their meeting. Last season the Stratford Racing Club took this step, and at the meeting of the general committee held recently it was decided to insure again this year, subject to the premium and conditions being the same. INJURY PROVES OBSTINATE. XV. Scobie, who had a bad fall with Jerry Boy in the Spring Brush Hurdle race at Riccarton on November 3, has had to have his arm broken again and reset. The injured limb is now in plaster of paris.

June the Third has rejoined the team of A. M’Kenzie at Invercargill, where T. E. Pankhurst has taken charge of M’Nab. LATE MR T. NICOL’S HORSES. Mr John Nicol, of Waiwcra South, who died last week, was the owner of Double Shot, Honest Maid and Toreador. The “ Southland Times ” states that these horses are to remain in the care of the Invercargill trainer R. M’Lellan in the meantime. PINK COAT FILLY. F. W. Ellis, of Invercargill, has added a two-year-old bay filly by Pink (’oat to his team. The dam of this youngster is out of Quickform, by Beneform (Son of Multiform) from Quickset, by Quarryman. FROM A FAMOUS FAMILY. Chenars, who won the Argyle High Weight Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday, belongs to a famous family. He is a four-year-old by Hunting Song from Lalla Rookh, by Feramorz (son of St Frusquin) from Class, by Wallace from La Tosca, by Robinson Crusoe from Nightmare, by Panic from Evening Star by Lord Clifden. Poetaster, a half-sister to Lalla Rookh, won the V.R.C, Sires’ Produce Stakes. Lalla Rookh was a half-sister to Bon Ton, The Toff and Eligible. Class was a sister to Burletta (dam of Radnor), and a half-sister to La Notte, dam of Noctuiform, Nightfall and Midnight Sun. La Tosca was the dam of the Victoria Derby winner F.J.A., and she was a half-sister to the dam of that great mare, Wakeful. Nightmare, a sister to Commotion, was the dam of Mentor (Melbourne Cup) and Dreamland (Australian Cup). Other members of this family were Night Watch (Melbourne Cup), Mountain Knight (A.J.C. Derby) and Blairgour (Caulfield Futurity Stakes). Naturally the Australians are keen on the family. Poetaster and Rhyme, another half-sister to Chenars. found their way to Australia. where Rhyme was renamed Jestful. The dam, Lalla Rookh, was herself sent to Australia in 1931. NEARLY BURNT TO DEATH. One of the last yearlings to be led from the flames, when Chisholm and Co's stables were burned to the ground on the morning of April 6, was the chestnut filly by imported Grosvenor from imported Humility. Another yearling, who was being led out at the same time, broke away from the attendant and dashed screaming back to be incinerated. The Humility filly was in a highly nervous state, but was brought out into the street and taken to the veterinary hospital of Mr T. G. Doyle, lower down King Street. She was burned about the shoulders and other parts of the body, and she was a patient in hospital for several months. On November 24, this filly, now named Gentility, won the first division of the Hoxton Park Nursery at Warwick Farm. Another recent Sydney winner lucky to be alive is Sally Instep. When a very small foal, she fell into a creek and was rescued only with difficulty. She suffered badly at the time from shock. RACING FIXTURES. December 15—Hororata R.C. December 15—Wellington R.C.
