FIRST PROSECUTIONS.
Cyclists Riding More Than
Two Abreast.
The first prosecutions under the City Council’s new by-law prohibiting cyclists riding more than two abreast were heard by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., this morning. The Magistrate said he presumed that the cases, being the first, had really been brought as a warning, so that he would not impose heavy penalties. The following were each convicted and ordered to pay costs: John Findlater. Jeremiah Mackay, Arthur Morris, John Roberts M’Clure and James Thomas O’Brien. Mr H. Macintosh, chief traffic inspector to the City Council, said that the new by-law. No. 19, had been well advertised. The charges were the first under that regulation. In the course of his remarks the Magistrate said that people had better take warning that the by-law was being actively enforced and that it would be more rigidly enforced in the future.
