WHEN BUNCHES OF TOMATOES CONTINUE TO GROW.
A peculiarity often seen in the tomato is that the end of the bunch of fruit will produce a leaf, or even a. growing point, and will continue to grow. It. is often asked what should be done in such cases. Cut off the leaf or growing
point by all means, and in most cases it will be found an advantage to cut away the last one or two fruits. It is seldom they come to perfection, and the ones that are left receive the benefit. THE WHITE BUTTERFLY AND CABBAGES. E.B. (Matakohe) writes: —Tn conversation with an old English gardener. I asked him if white butterflies did not destroy his cabbages. He told me he knew them years ago in England, and used to pour a little salt and water on the tops of the cabbages, so when he saw them here he did the same, and he has had none destroyed. Some of your readers may like to try it. LIQUID MANURING. The Vegetable and Flower garden will now benefit from systematic liquid manuring. Tomatoes, lettuce and cabbages will respond quickly and handsomely to treatment with Concentrated Tankage. This excellent fertilizer will prove invaluable also in the Flower garden. Two ounces of the Tankage to the gallon of water will make the ideal liquid manure. A dressing in powder form should be given to chrvsanthemums and worked well into the soil. It will pay you to procure a supply of “ Eclipe ” Concentrated Tankage’ packed in useful little buckets, and procurable from all Seedsmen and Stores. 6
