ESSAY CONTESTS.

Navy and Victoria Leagues. AWARDS PRESENTED. Prizes and certificates were presented to successful competitors in the 1934 Navy League and Victoria League essay contest for primary and secondary school pupils at a gathering in the Neavy League Hall last evening. Canon A. H. Norris, vice-presi-dent of the Navy League, presided, and Mrs C. E. Deans, president of the Victoria League, distributed the awards. Both gave short addresses explaining the nature of the work and aims of the two organisations. After the prizegiving. films illustrating the Navy were shown. In the secondary schools’ sections, the prizes for class A (over fifteen) were presented to Margaret Davies (first) and Jc-an Hollobon (second), both of Rangi-Ruru School. Class B (under fifteen) prizes were awarded to Joy Wooler (Rangi-Ruru, first) and R. N. Morgan (St Andrew’s College, second). Rangi-Ruru School was awarded the J. J.
