TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

Donations Received by Board. The Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical Collegre met last night. Mr T. W. West presided over a good attendance. Approval of a grant of f 230, representing two-thirds of the estimated cost of £345 maintenance work, such as painting of the side school building*; and the roofs of the main buildings, was forthcoming from the Education Department. The following donations to the funds of the school were reported;—Christchurch Drainage Board £4O, Canterbury Employers’ Association £ls, Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association £5 sa. Central Labourers’ Union £3, Master Printers’ Association £2 2s.

The report of the principal (Dr D. E. Hansen) stated that the results of the recommendations for senior free places for pupils attending the Technical High School had been received from the Education Department. Very few of those recommended had been rejected by the Department, and all pupils who had done reasonably satisfactory work had been successful. The recommendations for evening school pupils would go forward to Wellington before Christmas. The reports of the examiners for the various classes were considered highly satisfactory. Th/> Buildings Committee reported having authorised the principal to carry out a trial of a system for improving the water supply on the playing fields. A sub-committt-e was considering the possibility of commencing a welding class at the college.
