The Misses Turnbull, Wai-iti Road, Timaru, are visiting Christchurch. Mrs A. S. Elworthy, Holme Station, who has been visiting Christchurch, will return home to-day. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Robinson, Fendalton, have returned from a trip to Sydney and Melbourne. Mrs C. H. Miller, of Flemington, who is a patient at St George’s Hospital, is making good progress. Forde, Dominion secretary of the National Council of Women, is at present on a tour of the South Island branches. Miss May Gudgeon, Cashel Street West, has returned to Christchurch from a trip to Sydney and Melbourne, on which she was accompanied by her sister, Miss M. Gudgeon, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs O. R. Kresse and Miss Mildred Kresse, who recently returned to Christchurch from the United States of America, have taken “ The Mill House,” Fendalton, for a term. The engagement is announced of the Rev Eric M. Rule, of Christchurch, to Miss Velma Doreen, only daughter of the Rev W. L. Whisnant, of Los Angeles, California, writes the London correspondent of the “ Star.” Miss Nance M’Cullough, Christchurch, who is at present living with her sister, Mrs John Marshall, in Hertfordshire, has been visiting friends at Bletchley (Bucks) and at Cambridge, writes the London correspondent of the “ Star.” She hopes to remain in England for another year, and will visit Devon and Cornwall. Miss Audrey Bell, of Kaitaia, arrived in London by the Balranald on October 11, writes the London correspondent of the “ Star.” She spent a week at Cambridge with her uncle and aunt, Lord and Lady Rutherford, and was married on November 10 at St Stephen’s Church, South Dulwich, to Mr C. .E. Hubert Watson, second son of Canon and Mrs Cecil Watson, of St Paul’s Church, Auckland. Mr and Mrs John Harris, of Christchurch, are now in London, writes the London correspondent of the “ Star.” Mr Harris is visiting England on a Carnegie Fellowship as nominee for the position of librarian in' the University of Otago. He is taking a year’s course at the School of Librarianship, University College, London, and hopes to visit many of the English and Continental libraries. He was in England a few years ago, when he took his B.A. at University College, Oxford. Mrs Harris was formerly Miss Rita Darby, of Auckland.
