Gatherings Held in Town and Country. EVENING AT SPREYDON. IMrs G. Brooks and Mrs A. Byron were joint hostesses *at a pantry evening held on Thursday at the home of Mr and Mrs A. Byron, South Crescent Road, Spreydon, in honour of Miss B. Bowen, whose marriage is to take place shortly. Miss fill gifts. An enjoyable evening was spent in games and competitions. M’Keown, Springfield, was hostess at a party given in honour of Mr and Mrs C. Beck, of Timaru.’ An enjoyable ' time was spent in games, competitions and dancing. Bruere and C. Dorward. Card Evening at Papanui. The weekly card evening of the Waimairi League Football Club was held on Wednesday. Tlvere was a large attendance. The winners were;—Ladies. Mrs H. Ford 1, Mrs C. Blackmore 2, Mrs T. Grogan 3; men, Mr J. Pearce 1, Mr L. R. M’Kenzie 2, Mr P. Cooper 3. Afterwards a dance was held, the music being supplied by Miss N. Cooper’s orchestra and Mrs C. Smith. Flag 500 Evening. To raise funds for the Waimairi Tennis Club a successful flag 500 •evening was held at the Memorial Hall recently. The arrangements were in charge of Mrs Agar and Mr C. Crocker. The winners were Mrs E. A. Tuirett. Mrs W. Ford and Mr W. Ford. The consolation prizes were awarded to Messrs R. Smith (Rangiora), L. Dunnage and M. Dunnage. Mothers’ Union Entertains. Members of the Mothers’ Union entertained the St Luke’s and Avonside unions at St Faith's Church, New Brighton, on Thursday afternoon. Over one hundred members were present. The service in the church was taken by the Rtv Kenneth Scliollar, and Mrs L*. Goldman presided at the organ. After the service afternoon tea was served on the lawn, and Mrs P- Scholiar extended a welcome to the visitors. Competitions were won by Mesdames A. W. Judg’e, A. Peverell, C. Hockley and Porterfield. Dance at Burwood. An enjoyable community ‘‘sing’’ and dance was held in the Burwood School recently in aid of the funds of the school fete to be held on December 8Goods to be auctioned were donated by Mr F. Rea by, Mrs Henderson and Sirs Olsen. Items were given by Mrs J. Southward and Mr R. Harrison. The song leader was Mr Ray Harrison and Mrs W. Willoughbv was pianist. Mr R. Vincent was M.C. for the dance, and Air W. Willoughby supplied the music. Pupils’ Party. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at Miss Eileen Orchard’s studio in Regent Street recently, when members of her children's dancing class celebrated the seventh birthday of George Lyle. Dancing lessons over, the children sat down to a birthday tea. Those present were;—George Lvie, Thelma- Park, Mary McCarthy. Jean Menzies, Betty Goddard, Vyonne Pearson, Fr*edn Hickman, Peggy Cree. The friends of Miss D. Marshall Lees-t-on recently entertained her at a kitchen evening. The time was pleasantly spent in dancing, cards, games and a competition, which was won bv Mrs S. Candy and Mr E. Hall. Mr <\ Tavlor supplied the music for the dancing.' Mr S. Malker, on behalf of those present conveyed to the guest of the evening their best wishes and asked her to achom many useful Presents for her future 500 Party and Dance. Seanlan arranged an enjoyable flag 500 partv and dance in the Peter Pan Hall, Cashel Street, on Wednesday evening. The Dixie Orchestra supplied the music. Children’s Party. Mrs John Walker, Selwvn Street, Somerfield, recently entertained a number of children to celebrate the twelfth birthday of her only daughter, Olga Margaret. Musical items were given by Winnie Armstrong, Margaret Hawker and Olga Walker. Margaret Hawker won a competition. The children present were: Winnie Armstrong, Margaret Hawker. Jov Primmer. In recognition of the. marriage of Miss Eileen Sloan, which is to he celebrated this month, Mrs Nelson Sloan gave a gift party at her home in Spreydon.
