SEASON EXTENDED.

“ Evergreen ” to Run Second Week. The vivacious Jessie Matthews dances and sings in “Evergreen,” the outstanding British film which entered the second week of its popular season at the Tivoli Theatre to-day. It is a story ofi the old and the new, of a resuscitation, of a dramatic “ come-back ” which was not what it appeared to be, but an ingenious impersonation which merrily sweeps on, entangling all concerned deeper and deeper in the net of deception. To Jessie Matthews must be awarded the honours. As the Hetty Green of the old days and the Hetty Green of 1934, she is remarkable. Never once does she falter or show a weakness that would mar the performPerhaps the outstanding scene is her “ Dancing on the Ceiling ” number, in which she sings the tuneful number in which she made her first great success in the stage production of the same play. She is afforded every opportunity that piquant situations and pleasing melodies can suggest and give the impression of the perfect actress. Harry Mackay plays opposite her, and he does it very well. Sonnie Hale, husband of Jessie Matthews, has a good part, and Betty Balfour, a pioneer British film star, is seen in one of her delightful Cockney roles. The supporting programme is of the usual high standard.
