CAUGHT IN SURF. Two people were caught in the strong undertow in. the surf at Sumner at 5 o’clock and two full teams of life-savers were necessary to bring them ashore. One of the men, Mr G. Crosby, of Euston Street, Sumner, was in a very bad condition, but after he had received treatment was able to make his way home. The other man was not much the worse for his experience. Lancaster Park were all out for 454, beating St Albans by 189 on the first Innings. East Christchurch were all out for. 138 at 6.20 in their second innings against Riccarton. Riccarton ■won by an innings and 57 runs. ATHLETICS. Section ll "Varsity 133, New Brighton 51, Sydenham 45. Civil Service 19, Kaiapoi 7. Rangiora 6. SUBURBAN CRICKET. Railway defeated W.M.C. by 10 £uirs. YACHTING. The annual race for old-time skippers was conducted by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club at Lyttelton this afternoon. Seven boats started. The race started at 2.55 and resulted:—Hakare (W. Newton (24sec), 4hrs 40min ISsec) 1. Yvonne (E. Sinclair (17sec), 4hrs 34min 37sec) 2, Marangi (C. E. Erown (7min), 4hrs 29min 20sec) 3. SENIOR CRICKET. At stumps West Christchurch, in their second innings against Sydenham had scored 106 runs for four wickets. The annual bowling contest for the Steans Cup was played between Canterbury (holders) and South Canterbury on the Canterbury "jClub’s green this afternoon. It was won by Canterbury by 204 points to Is 9.
