The feature of to-day’s play in the New South Wales lawn tennis championships, which were continued in hot weather, was the elimination of the Australian women’s singles champion. Miss Joan Hartigan, at the hands of the tall Queenslander, Alrg Westmacott. Results: Alen’s Singles—Semi-finals: J. Crawford defeated H. C. Hopman, 8-6, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3: F. J. Perry (England) defeated A. Quist, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Women's Singles—Semi-finals: Mrs Westmacott defeated Aliss Hartigan, 7-5, 6-4; Aliss D. Round (England) defeated Aliss N. M. Lyle (England), 7-5, 6-3. Alen’s Doubles—Quarter-finals: Hopman and E. G. Alaier (Spain) defeated Ft— Alenzel (Czechoslovakia) and Moon, 6-3. 6-2, S-6: V. G. Kirby (South Africa) and Quist defeated Dunlop and Donohoe, 6-4, 6-2, 7-5: Crawford and Al’Grath defeated Thompson and Aloore, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1; Perry and Hughes defeated Walker and Sproule, 6-4, b-4, 5-7, 6-4. Women’s Doubles Quarter-finals: Mesdames Westmacott and Molesworth defeated Alisses Dingle and Coyne, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; Alisses Hartigan and Bickerton defeated Alisses Hattersley and Selwin. 5- 7-5, 6-1: Aliss Round ffiul Mrs Hopman defeated Alisses Chrystal and Garlick, 6-0, 8-6: Alisses Dearman and Lyle defeated Alisses Cliitty and Blick, 6-1, 6The Crawford v. Hopman singles was a poor match. Perry was in superb form, his strokes being so well concealed that he frequently left Quist standing when advancing to the net. Perry, on the other hand, was never out of position. Reinstatement Rules. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 29. Regulations for the reinstatement of professionals anxious to regain amateur status were discussed at the quarterly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association this evening. and the following rules were laid down:—Each case to be considered on its merits, and every application to be submitted through an affiliated association. The Management Committee must be satisfied of the conduct of the applicant during the time he was a professional. An applicant, before reinstatement, must cease all professional activities for a period considered reasonable by the Management Committee, and commensurate with the circumstances of the individual case.
