CHASED WITH KNIFE.

Drunken Woman’s Attack i on Son. Thai the accused had chased one of her sobs about the house with a carving knife and subsequently cut up some of his best clothes were statements made by Senior-Sergeant Fox in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, in describing the circumstances that led to the appearance of an elderly woman, charged with xising obscene language. Two constables had been sent to a Sydenham house on Saturday evening, said the senior-sergeant. The accused was moving about inside the house, using again and again the language complained of. This, apparently’, had been going on all afternoon. The woman had been drinking. The woman, he continued, had evidently taken a “ set ” against one of her sons, and had chased him round the house with a carving knife at intervals during the afternoon and evening. Then she had cut up some of his good clothes. This kind of thing had, it seemed, been going on for some time, with drink as. the cause. “ Something should be done to put this woman under control,” declared the senior-sergeant. “We are afraid that she will do some serious damage." Counsel for the woman said that she had been drinking. The woman’s age was fifty, and it might be that some of the ailments affecting women at that age were partly' responsible for her outbreaks. He asked that her name should be suppressed. The Magistrate (Air 11. P. Lawrv, S.M.) ordered the woman to come tip for sentence if called upon within six months, and to take out a prohibition order. Her name was suppressed.
