Progress of Christchurch R.S.A. Reports of work carried out by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association during the last six months were made to the adjourned half-yearly meeting of the association last night. The president (the Rev F. T. Read) presided over an attendance of about fifty members. Reviewing measures taken to relieve unemployment among returned soldiers, Mr T. L. Drummond said that the problem was not capable of. full solution until the national position improved. In the work the association could claim some measure of success, though the problem was still a major one. ft had been disheartening to find that members of the association were responsible for the failure of the scheme to establish a tailoring industry to employ exservicemen. Mr A. L. Emerson spoke on the association’s social activities, and the president reported that one new subbranch, at Waipara, had been formed during the quarter, and the association’s membership had increased by nearly 300 in the last twelve months. Tentative plans for the enlargement of the stage of the Jellicoe Hall, to give better facilities for the staging of concerts. were outlined by Mr B. O. Priddis. chairman of the House Committee.
