King George Poppy.

THE ORIENTAL or perennial poppy is one of the best of flowering plants for the border, for not only is it conspicuous for its bright substantial blossoms, but it flowers for quite a long period and is so very effective for house cuttings. Most ladies when considering their decorative schemes, want flowers that are bold and striking and P. Orientale is all that and more, especially when the newer sorts are available in their varied colours. In King George we have a most distinct flower, likely to be much favoured. It is of bright scarlet colour with the usual black blotches inside, but the effect is heightened by the petals being deeply laciniated and fringed. These poppies are free flowering once they are established. They should be disturbed only when the clumps get too big, about every three or four years. " T. D. LENNIE.
