NOEL RYAN’S PLANS.
May Not Contest Centenary Swimming Races. Australian champion swimmer, Noel Ryan, will probably content himself with struggling with debits and credits at the Commonwealth Bank for some time and not allow his favourite sport to make great inroads into his time, states a Sydney correspondent. At present he is"quite in the dark as to future movements, immediate and remote. Asked if he would be available for the events at the Melbourne Centenary celebrations, he smilingly shook his head and replied that he could not j say, and he was equally lacking in information when an inquiry was made as to whether he would apply for leave. The Manly crack could not say if he will make any more trips abroad. Some prominent Sydney swimming i officials are doubtful about his representing Australia at the Berlin Olvmpiad. In the last four years he has travelled to Canada, Los Angeles. London and New Zealand, and has visited every capital in the Commonwealth --many of them twice. His aggregate absence from Sydney must total well over eighteen months in the period—a serious disturbance of his work, which he may not be desirous of continuing. On the Teturn of the Empire Games team to Sydney they were at a splendidly attended dance The profit from this is being given to the Australian Olympic Federation. Dudley Hellmrich, as one of the representatives of the Australian Swimming Union on the British Empire Games Committee, has forwarded a letter to J. S W. Eve, secretary of both the' Empire and Olympic bodies, protesting against this. He claims that it was an Empire (.Tames function, and that organisation should receive any financial benefit.
