DEATH OF OLD SOLDIER.
United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. November 5. 1 The death has occurred of General ! Sir Harold Bridgwood Walker, K.C.8.. K.C.M.G., C. 8., D. 5.0., D.C.L.I. and Border Regiment, at the age ol seventv-two. lie temporarily commanded the New Zealand Brigade at the Gallipoli landing and succeeded Colonel Arthur Bridges in command of the First Australian Division at Gallipoli and afterwards in Flanders. General Walker entered the Army in England in 1884, reaching the rank of I lieutenant-colonel in 190 S and lieutrn- ; ant-general in 1923. He served in the i Nile Expedition in 18S4-85; Egyptian ! Frontier, ISBS-S6; NAV. Frontier, India. ! 1897-98; South Africa, 1599-1902; Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 1914-16 ; (nine times mentioned in despatches, I twice wounded) ; served with the Brit- ] ish Expeditionary Force in France and ! Italy; and was in command of the i Sothern Command of India, 1924-28. He has two sons.
