ARMED ROBBER.

Rifles Till in Melbourne Cake Shop. GIRL’S EXPERIENCE. (Special to the “ Star.”) MELBOURNE. October 27. Trapped in the window of Adams's branch cake shop in Nicholson Street. North Carlton, from which all the staff but she had fled, a girl employee. Miss Bertha M’Kenna, was forced, trembling, to watch while an armed man rifled the till just before closing-time to-day. Backing from the shop with a cake which he had purchased under his arm, the man escaped with a few shillings—only a few seconds before the arrival of the firm’s collector, who calls at 1 p.m. for the day’s takings. The hold-up was the fourth in two days. “ I was too frightened to try to attract outside attention through the glass—l just kept my eyes fixed on him and his revolver,” said Miss M’Kenna later. The man was aged about 25. Miss Hazel Burke, who served him. said that she thought he looked suspicious, and turned to say so to Miss Perry, the manageress, but he did not leave the shop. “ Suddenly he slammed the door and walked toward us with a' revolver in his hand.” said Miss Burke. “ Miss Perrv and I ran screaming out the back. Miss Perry went for help, and I suddenly" thought of Miss M'Kenna and w:nt back. Through the glass door at the back T could see her still in the window, with the man leaning over the till.”
