APPEAL ALLOWED.

Service Linking Queenstown and Christchurch. SEASONAL LICENSE GRANTED. (Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, November 6. The Transport Co-ordination Board, Sir Stephen Allen (chairman), Messrs 11. B. S. Johnstone and L. Alderton, at Invercargill yesterday delivered an interim judgment in the Mount Cook, Tourist Company’s appeal. The appeal was lodged against the No. 9 Licensing Authority’s refusal to grant the company a license to run a tourist service from Studholrrje Junction to Queenstown on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for the up journey, and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for the down, and connecting with the first express from the north on the trip to Queenstown and with the express north on the trip from Queenstown. The application had been refused by the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority. Mr W. J. Sim, of Christchurch, appeared for the appellant, the Mount Cook Tourist Co., Ltd., and Mr E. P. Ward for Wanaka Motors, Ltd., who opposed the application. It was also opposed by Hunter’s D.O.T. Motors, Ltd., Kurow Motors, Ltd., and Herron’s Motors. Considerable evidence was given as to the desirability of the service and otherwise. The board allowed the appeal, and in its decision provided for a seasonal license to operate from October 1 to May 31, the service to commence on a date to be notified to the board by the company. The through fare from Studholme Junction to Cromwell would be 355, and the fare charges between Studholme and Omarama and intermediate sections at least 25 per cent higher than the fares charged by the present operators, i.e., the Kurow Motor Company and Herron’s Motors. This means that Queenstown will now have a direct service with the north train, by which it will be possible to reach Christchurch and the steamer express service in one day and vice versa.

It is understood that the company intends to run a new limousine bus in the service.
