VETERAN SPORTSMAN.
Mr Arthur Selby Honoured in Auckland. (Special to the " Star.”) AUCKLAND, November 6. Mr Arthur Selby to-day celebrated his eighty-ninth birthday. Mr Selby has been a huntsman with the Pakuranga Hounds for twenty-two years, and clerk of the course to the Auckland Racing Club and the Avondale Jockey Club for thirty-six years, in addition to being clerk of the course to the Auckland Trotting Club and the Takapuna Jockey Club for many years. Mr Selby was the guest of honour at a celebration organised by a party of bowlers on the Ilowick green and this evening there was a family reunion at his home at Ilowick. Mr Selby was born near Sevenoaks, Kent, in 1845, and came to New Zealand about fifty years ago. He has lived in Auckland for forty-one years and has always been keenly interested in any equestrian sport. He owned and raced many horses. One of the best steeplechasers to carry his colours was*Nor’-west. Mr Selby still attends race-meetings and meets of the Pakuranga HuriL
