CREW PAID OFF.
Tees Will Be Laid Up Indefinitely.
Members of the crew of the Chatham Islands steamer Tees were paid off this morning, and the vessel will be laid up indefinitely'.
The crew was given twenty-four hours’ notice on Monday' evening. Efforts were made yesterday' to come to an arrangement with the men, but two interviews between Captain A. Anderson and the men’s representatives failed to bring about an agreement. This morning at 10.30 the men were paid off at the Government shipping office. A portion of the Tees’ cargo, consisting of fruit and perishable goods, was discharged this mornThe Tees was to have taken ten passengers to the Chathams. The dispute arose as a result of the men refusing to sail unless arrangements were made by which they should receive watersiders’ rates when working cargo at the Chathams. The owners refused to do this.
