PRESENTATION.
At a smoke concert held recently at the Christchurch Working Men’s Club, Mr F. L. Woledge was asked to accept a very old E flat clarinet, the gift of Major J. P. Oakes. In making the presentation, Major Oakes stated that the instrument was played by his father, and afterwards by himself as a boy. He said it gave him great pleasure to hand the clarinet to Mr Woledge as a memento of his great assistance to the club’s orchestra. In thanking Major Oakes for his thoughtful gift, Air Woledge said it was a great surprise to him and a real pleasure to accept such an antique clarinet. He would keep it as a memento of the generosity' and sporting spirit of Major Oakes, and of the improvement that had been made in the art of clarinet manufacture.
